Barnstaple Poverty Action Group

Barnstaple Poverty Action Group (BPAG) is an independent community based charity that provides a range of services to people across Northern Devon who are experiencing crisis and hardship.  We work to prevent and resolve homelessness, rough sleeping and to reduce the impact of poverty and financial exclusion.

The organisation is managed by a voluntary Board of Trustees drawn from the local community and local organisations.  BPAG is completely independent and has no religious or political affiliations.  The services are delivered by a team of staff and volunteers.

BPAG has recently taken over the work of Ilfracombe Poverty Action Group and Torridge Poverty Action Group.

BPAG’s projects include:

BPAG receives funding to support specific projects and pieces of work from a number of sources, including charitable trusts and foundations such as the Bridge Trust, Lloyds TSB Foundation, Children in Need, the John Paul Getty Charitable Trust and the Tudor Trust. Some income comes from partner organisations and statutory services. However, we rely on donations from local people and organisations for our vital front-line work with rough sleepers and the homeless.  Without such support this vital work would cease.

Progress Through Partnership

In order to provide accessible, relevant and effective services, BPAG works in close strategic and operational partnerships with a range of key agencies.  These include Devon County Council, North Devon Council, Torridge District Council, North Devon Homes, South West Pound, Scribes, and Tarka Housing.
